Behind the Print: Ceramics

While designing the Ceramic’s print, Karen wanted to capture the feeling of staring into the glass cabinet of the V&A-- mixing all the different styles together, bursting with colour, minimal designs next to crazy maximal ones. During her time at the London Royal College of Art, Karen began her studies of ceramics and fell in love with the history of the intricate art form. After multiple visits to the V&A museum, Karen particularly enjoyed Josiah Wedgwood’s Cauliflower ware and the idea of taking something so mundane and replicating it beautifully in ceramics as an oddly appealing art form.
During her 20’s, Karen began her own collection of ceramics during her annual trip to St. Ives. This collection was expanded during her international travels, leading to her returning home ceramics-filled luggage and her fingers crossed that everything remained in one piece.
During lockdown, Karen took joy in serving meals on colourful, decorative plates and made her appreciate her collection on a new level. She hopes that her print brings people the same joy and that they can enjoy the intricate details of the print in their own home.
