The Triumphant Return of Maximalism

The Karen Mabon team are back in the studio after attending Paris Fashion Week to show the SS18 collection at Premiere Classe. Paris is one of our favourite fashion cities and we adore the way Parisians dress. This season, we were overwhelmed by the decadence and the abundance of decoration. Reacting against the minimalist style of late, the trends have well and truly followed Gucci's Alessandro Michele down the luxurious rabbit hole of maximalism.

The glory of maximalism has no limits. No surface has been left without decoration. No edge without a contrasting trim. Gold. Jewels. Colour. There's a vulgarity to it all but it's also clear that people are eager to dress up and are finding enjoyment in choosing what to wear in the morning. We left Paris with a renewed excitement for fashion and remembered the reason we do it all, simply because we love fashion. Here are some pictures from our Paris trip, including some previews from Premiere Classe and TRANOÏ and a quote from the iconic devotee of maximalism, Diana Vreeland.

"Vulgarity is a very important ingredient in life. I'm a great believer in vulgarity- if it's got vitality. A little bad taste is like a nice splash of paprika. We all need a splash of bad taste- it's hearty, it's healthy, it's physical. I think we could use more of it. No taste is what I'm against."
